The CPRA is purposely designed for water rescue in blue water, along shorelines, swift water, and flood zones, offering profound societal benefit. The CPRA is a unique rideable powered rescue watercraft that’s portable, stowable, and automatically inflated and deployed in an instant from almost anywhere, including a moving boat or helicopter. Innovative features and functionality include a mesh rescue litter suspended between a pair of buoyant powered water skis, enabling a rescuer/rider to retrieve, immobilize, provide in-situ medical attention, and transport a helpless water casualty to safety.
The inspiration for the CPRA came from an MOB training session where I observed three skippers fail in attempts to lift a helpless MOB onto a boat. Additional research confirmed the extreme difficulty of rescuing conscious or unconscious casualties from the water (Burden 2019). Compelled to provide a solution, I took immediate action.
